한달 훈련소에서 지낼 때 읽은 책이다. 훈련소에 매우 고맙게도 여러 신간들이 책장에 꽂혀 있었고 그 중 마지막으로 읽은 책이다. (훈련소에 있는동안 생각보다 자유시간(?)이 많이 있었고 덕분에 원없이 독서를 할 수있었다.) 책은 여러 해에 걸친 인터뷰 내용을 엮어서 출간되었다. 대부분의 인터뷰들은 어딘가에 실렸던 내용으로 기억한다. 책의 두께가 두껍지 않아 가볍게 읽을 수 있으나 유발 하라리, 제레드 다이아몬드 두 분의 분량이 다른 인사들 보다 많은 점이 조금 아쉽다. 또한 인터뷰 형식의 짧은 글이다보니 그들의 주장을 깊게 전달하지 못한 점이 역시 아쉽다. (사실 이 부분은 내가 부족한 탓이다. 책에 등장하는 분들의 책을 대부분 안 읽어봤고 따라서 그분들의 주장을 피상적으로 받아 들일 수 밖에 없었다.) 재밌는 점은 그들의 주장이 서로 상반되는 경우도 있고 일치하는 경우도 있다는 점이다. 또한 읽으면서 매우 놀랐던 점들은 지금껏 읽었던 책들의 내용이 매우 많이 등장한다는 점이다. 직접적으로 인용은 되지 않더라도 그 맥락은 일치하는 경우가 많이 있었다. 그런 부분을 발견하고 필기를 할 때마다 조금 성장한 것 같아 매우 뿌듯했다.
( During a month military training, I read this book. Thankfully, there were a lot of the latest books on the shelf at army, almost the end of the training time I read this.(While I was in the army, I can get a lot of more free time(?) than I expected. So that it was possible to read so many books. That was so lucky!!) This book is the bundle of interviews past few years. What I remembered that those had been posted somewhere already. Because the book was little thin, you can read that without any cost. However, I felt unsatisfied that only two interviewers, 'Yuval Noah Harari' and 'jared diamond', had too many portions than others. Also, because this book is the bundle of short interviews so it's hard to explain more deep contents.(Honestly, this drawback is the fault of my lace of knowledge and diligence. I didn't read most of the interviewer's books. That's because there was the barrier that I can absorb and understand their opinions.) Anyway, one of the funny things in that book was that some opinions were incompatible among the interviewers. And I got a little shocked because in the book there were a lot of similar content from other books that I already read before. Not even directly speaking, but their contexts were pointed same direction. Once that I found those kind of things and wrote down on my note, I was so happy that I felt I have been growing at least that is a small step. )
첫 챕터는 유발 하라리의 인터뷰로 시작한다. 그는 인류가 만들어낸 '허구'를 언급하며 점점 사람들이 허구와 현실을 구별하지 못하고 허구의 노예가 되어가고 있다고 말한다. 그는 '허구'란 고통을 느끼지 않는 대상으로 국가, 기업, 자본주의, 돈, 인터넷 등을 말한다. 이러한 '허구'는 아구스틴 푸엔테스의 '크리에이티브'에서도 언급됐 듯이 인류가 만들어낸 가장 위대한 발명품이고 작은 규모의 집단을 넘어 국가로 발전할 수 있었던 핵심이기도하다.(크리에이티브도 서평을 써야하는데 최근 너무 게을러졌다...)(pg. 17 - 20)
( The interview of 'Yuval Noah Harari' opened the first chapter. He said that we have become the slaves of 'fiction' which the human have developed through the history. Because we have been slowly losing our abilities to distinguish between 'fiction' and 'real'. In his view of 'fiction' is the thing that can't feel any pain such as nation, company, capitalism, money, and internet. This kind of 'fiction' is the one of the great achievements of human history and it works as a glue that the small group of people becomes bigger and bigger like the country as mentioned in 'Agustin Fuentes' book 'The Creative Spark'(I read this months ago but I couldn't write the review because of my laziness. I don't know why, but recent day I become more lazy....)(pg. 17 - 20) )
이 후 제레드 다이아몬드는 사회적 다양성의 중요성과 국가 간 빈부 격차와 초연결 사회에서 야기하는 세 가지 위험, 신종 감염병의 확산, 테러리즘, 이민 문제를 지적했으며 이를 막기 위해 인류는 지속 가능한 경제를 만들어야하며 전통 사회에서의 갈등 해결 방법을 배워야 한다고 주장한다.(pg. 71 - 88) 닉 보스트룸은 초지능의 도래가 초래할 수 있는 사회적 재앙과 이를 막기 위해 인공지능의 기질이 우리의 것과 딱 맞게 설계 되어야 한다는 점을 피력했다.(pg. 96) 린다 그래튼은 교육-일-은퇴의 3단계로 요약할 수 있는 과거의 인생에서 이제는 평생 교육 시대로 넘어갔고 앞으로 무형 자산이 더욱 중요해질 것이라고 말한다. 또한 내가 진정으로 바라는 삶이 무엇인지 진지하게 고찰하고 다양성이 존재하는 네트워크를 구축하여 삶의 새로운 변화를 창출 할 수 있어야 한다고 한다.(pg. 116 - 138) 다니엘 코엔은 새로운 과학기술이 인간의 노동생산성을 향상시키는 장점이 있으나 이는 상당한 시간이 걸리고 계층간 격차를 야기하며 재생산 및 심화시키는 원인이기도 하다고 주장한다. 또한 인공지능이 발달할수록 소수에게 부가 집중되는 현상이 가속될 것이며 이는 전분야에서 동일하다.('링크'에서 보여준 scale-free network의 큰 특징 중 하나이다.) 그러나 인간은 어떤 의미에서는 그 자체로 최종 완제품이므로 목표가 명확하지 않고 모호할 때 필요하다고 말한다.(pg. 147 - 162) 조앤 윌리엄스와 넬 페인터는 미국 내에서 계층간 발생하고 있는 대립을 설명하며 미국에서 일어나고 있는 사회 문제의 원인을 설명하고 있다.(pg. 171 - 195) 이는 다음에 작성 할 세스 스티븐스 다비도위츠의 '모두 거짓말을 한다'에서도 볼 수 있는 내용이다. 마지막으로 윌리엄 페리는 핵전쟁이 언제든지 우발적으로 발생할 수 있으며 세계는 충분한 경각심을 가지며 이를 방지하기 위한 대책을 끊임없이 마련해야 한다고 주장하였고 저자의 간단한 코맨트로 책이 마무리가 되었다.
( And then, the book moved to jared diamond's interview. He pointed out the importance of social diversity and the big three problems in the future, new pandemic, terrorism, and emigrating problem caused by the gap between rich and poor and super-connected society. To prevent those problems, we have to make sustainable economics and need to learn the way of conflict solving in traditional society.(pg. 71 - 88) Nick Bostrom highlighted the things that we need to design the properties of AI(Artificial intelligence) as same as a human value to prevent the serious disaster caused by the advent of super-intelligent.(pg. 96) Lynda Gratton said that the previous human life which can be summarized in three steps, learning-working-retiring, is already transferred to the era of lifelong education and invisible asset will become more important in the future. Also, she said, we need to contemplate the life we really want to live. And build the new diverse human networks derived us to varieties in our life.(pg. 116 - 138) Daniel Cohen said development of science improves the labor productivity, but it takes time to apply to real fields and it is the one of the main reason of intensifying the gap between classes. Also, the more artificial intelligence develops, the more wealth and other things will be concentrated in the minority.(This is the main properties of scale-free networks explained in the book 'Linked') But in some point of view human is a complete product, so we need in the certain situations where the goal is not clear.(pg. 147 - 162) Joan Williams and Nell Irvin Painter explained the class conflicts in USA and the reason of the main social phenomenon.(pg. 171 - 195) This is also mentioned at the Seth Stephens-Davidowitz's book ''Everybody lies". I will write the review right away. Finally, William James Perry warned the possibility of accidental nuclear war and the world should always keep in mind of that. And the book is over with short author's comments. )
우리는 수많은 정보들과 함께 예측 불가능한 불확실성의 세계속에서 살고 있다.(이는 '링크'등 이전 서평에서도 언급했듯이 복잡계의 특징 중 하나이다.) 그 누구도 해답과 올바른 방향을 제시하기 어려운 상황에서 인공지능의 발달은 미래에는 대부분의 직업이 사라지고 나아가 인간의 생존마저 위태롭게 만들지 않을까 하는 우리들의 불안을 더욱 가속시키고 있는 것처럼 보인다. 이런 상황에서 구성원간의 갈등이 심화되고, 사람들이 점점 차갑고 날카로워지는 것은 당연한 것 같다. 그러나 본문에서 '우리는 지금 인류, 아니 지구 생명 역사를 통틀어 최대 혁명기로 일컬어질 시대에 진입하고 있습니다. ... 어쩌면 40억년 역사의 유기 생명체 시대가 곧 막을 내리고 그 자리를 무기 생명체가 차지할 지도 모릅니다. .... 이에 대한 섣부른 가치 판단을 하려는 것은 아니지만, 모든 사람이 그런 시대에 돌입했음을 인식해야 합니다.' pg. 52 - 53 와 같이 유발 하라리가 말했듯이 우리는 역사상 매우 큰 격변의 시기에 살고 있음을 확실히 자각 해야한다. 역사적으로 큰 변화는 위기이자 기회이고 그러한 상황에서 커다란 스트레스를 받는 것은 당연하다. 앞으로 미래 사회가 어떻게 변화할지 아무도 모른다. 당장 21세기에 바이러스로 전 세계가 정지하였으며 수많은 사망자가 발생할지 누가 알았는가. 분명한 것은 여러 변화 속에서 기민하게 대응할 수 있도록 끊임없이 준비해야 한다는 점이다. 평생 동안 꾸준히 학습하고 여러 사회 현상과 갈등 이면에 있는 본질적인 것을 이해하려고 노력하고 대처할 수 있도록 준비해야만 하는 시대가 되었다.
( We are living in an era of uncertainty with enormous information.(This is the big properties of complex system that I mentioned at the previous review of 'Linked' and others too.) Nobody can give the clear answer to us. And when it rains, it pours, The development of AI truly threatens our real jobs and even the our survivals. It enhances our anxieties. Some times, it's not really strange that the conflicts between social members are going to deeper and people are getting more cold and aggressive nowadays. But in the book said 'Now we are entering the new ages that will be called the greatest revolution times in the history of humanity, or the history of life on Earth. ... Perhaps, the 4 billion-year-old era of organic life is getting dark and the era of inorganic life is raising now. ... I don't want to make any conclusion of this but, Every people should notice that we are already in.' pg. 52 - 53. As Yuval Noah Harari said like that we should realize that we are in the time of tremendous upheaval. The history says that sometimes the biggest change could be a chance or danger to us. And it is normal that we get a lot of stress from now. No one knows the future clearly. Nobody couldn't forecast that the virus is making the world stopped and killing a lot of people in 21 centuries. The one of the clear thing is thing that we should continuously prepare to cope with the situations agilely. Now it's the time to endless study and try to understand the essential things under the social phenomena and conflicts. )
